Deadline Club Annual Awards

The Deadline Club’s Journalism Awards contest is one of the most prestigious in the city. The contest covers work that was published or broadcast in 2017. Entrants must be emp loyees of or freelancers for news organizations with an office within a 50-mile radius of Columbus Circle in New York City. Judges reserve the right to move an entry to another category that may be more appropriate. In some cases, they may decide that a category merits no winner.

Entries are judged on fairness, balance and accuracy; thoroughness, timeliness and clarity; news language and technical skills exhibited; enterprise, resourcefulness and obstacles overcome; effort involved in preparation; and the story’s interest and importance to the public.

Finalists in each category are announced in the spring and winners are announced at an annual awards dinner, along with the presentation of the scholarships, a guest speaker, and more as a part of the awards program.

The Deadline Club is New York City’s chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists.
