Bill Carter, who covers the television industry for The New York Times, will be this year’s guest interviewer, with CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker as his subject, at the Deadline Club’s Annual Awards Dinner on May 19 at the Waldorf Astoria.
Carter, a 25-year Times veteran, will interview Zucker in the conversational format the Club adopted for its Awards Dinner speakers three years ago.
Zucker, 48, has been managing CNN’s cable news ratings war since leaving the helm of NBC Universal a little more than a year ago. Among the news brands he oversees are CNN’s U.S. television network, CNN International, HLN and CNN Digital. Zucker spent most of his career at NBC, where, at 26, he became the youngest executive producer of the Today program in 1992.
After the 25-minute interview, winners of the 2014 Awards Contest will be announced and presented with “Rube” awards, which were designed exclusively for the Club by the famous artist and cartoonist, Rube Goldberg. Finalists in the contest’s 31 categories of print, broadcast and online journalism will be announced in the next few days. Tickets to the awards dinner can be purchased HERE.
The dinner also will recognize up to four journalism students, each of whom will receive a $2,500 scholarship. Most of the funding for the $10,000 in scholarship awards comes from proceeds from the Club’s Awards Contest and Dinner. Applications for the 2014 scholarships are being accepted through April 25 at 11:59 p.m. ET. To apply, CLICK HERE.
