Is this the future of independent journalism? Can writers really make money\, or is the real benefit in influence – and what’s the balance? Join David A. Andelman\, Deadline Club board member and author of Andelman Unleashed\, for a webinar on building a successful Substack. The workshop begins with a discussion featuring established Substackers Claire Atkinson and Richard Galant followed by a hands-on\, how-to session to get started. Andelman\, who gained thousands of subscribers after being banned from X and seeing World Policy Journal and CNN Opinion shut down\, shares insights on navigating this shifting media landscape. The talk will last 40 minutes and the how-to session 20 minutes\, give or take (with the possibility of an informal chat at the end). \n \n Speakers \n \n Claire Atkinson\, a veteran business and media journalist\, began her career as senior media reporter for the New York Post\, then served as media editor at NBC News and chief media correspondent for Business Insider before creating The Media Mix\, a Substack and podcast with global reach. She is also working on the authoritative biography of Rupert Murdoch and divides her time between Nice and New York.\n\nRichard Galant\, founder and executive producer of the Substack newsletter Now It’s History\, is a senior fellow at New America. He previously served as founding managing editor of CNN Opinion and earlier as managing editor of Newsday and New York Newsday\, where he led teams that won two Pulitzer Prizes. A graduate of Brandeis\, he received a master’s degree in politics and philosophy at Oxford.\n\nDavid A. Andelman\, created Substack’s Andelman Unleashed\, and has reported from 90+ countries and has written five books. Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur\, he was twice awarded the Deadline Club Award for Best Opinion Writing for his CNN commentaries and Reuters columns. He served as editor and publisher of World Policy Journal\, an executive editor of Forbes\, a domestic and foreign correspondent for The New York Times\, and CBS News Paris correspondent.
