On Thursday, May 14, the Deadline Club hosted its annual awards ceremony at the historic and exclusive Harvard Club of New York City.
The Deadline Club Awards recognize the best journalism produced by journalists and media organizations based in the greater New York area. Winners compete for a coveted “Rube” statuette. Designed in 1968 legendary cartoonist Rube Goldberg, the statuette was Rube’s idea of a dead line—shown in three dimensions.
The evening was highlighted by a pair of guest speakers: Norman Pearlstine, former editor-in-chief of Time Inc. and longtime media executive, and Zach Seward, editorial director of A.I. initiatives at The New York Times. They spoke with Deadline Club president David Andelman for an extensive look at journalism’s past and where today’s newsrooms will be tomorrow.
